Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A silver metala nd epoxied device 1 1/4 (3.18cm) in diameter a silver disc with green transparent center displaying a curving, grid-like pattern within a border made of 32 white square indentations, overall a pole star with arms extending beyond the silver disc and at its center the Big Dipper constellation, all gold.Flowing around the device, folding behind the four arms of the star, a maroon scroll inscribed VINCO, DURUM, ACRTICUS, BELLUM in silver.



Symbolism


The green curving grid-like patterns ymbolizes the Aurora Borealis, or polar lights, which can be seen most of the year in Alaska. The color maroon is traditionally associated with Dental Health Activities and the latin motto translates to OVERCOME, HARSH, ARCTIC, CHALLENGES. The 32 square indentations represent 32 healthy adult teeth and the mission of Dental Health Activity Alaska. The pole star, or North Star, and the Big Dipper constellation are displayed on the Alaska state flag.




Background

Dental Health Activity, Alaska was established by Permanent Order 236-016, dated 23 August 2016. The DUI was approved on 29 August 2017
